dream. swans.

i dream i see the two most beautiful houses with magnificent enormous front yards. the first i pass on the sidewalk and have to hop to see over the white picket fence but the second is an open yard and i walk up through it and pass the house through trees up a small hill. i am greeted with two old cemeteries on either side.
the sun is so bright every stone is white and blinding.
there are white swans in the trees.
one fat swan sits still, maybe not real, with two others draped lazily over his neck. he is carrying them. as we walk around we see
old carnival rides
everywhere. smallish, still, simple, they bring me to say aloud what i've been thinking.

this is the most perfect place and i want to live here forever.

we is now my family and we come upon an old barn. there are faded wilting cloth signs and i can make out 'the relon bros. circus' in the burlap. i am incredibly excited, and maybe even in the dream mentally note the reference to water for elephants which i recently read.

some men come, two maybe and they put us on a hayride sort of contraption. we take off through barns and i don't remember the sight-seeing but i do remember being afraid and continually preparing my body for the jolt that did not come each time we came upon a huge pair of closed barn doors. we accelerate upon them and there is a loud crash each time and the doors open on their own.
i come to notice a long old plank of wood, roughly hewn from barn wood, protruding from the front of the vehicle. it served as our door-opening device.

we come upon another door and it doesnt open. there are contraptions under the floor almost like a carnival ride. things are on timers as you pass over or by them.
this one doesn't work and one of the circus men and i hop off, some wood planks in the floor open and i hop down into the hole hoping to fix something and the man tosses wood and a sheet of glass casually in there at me. apparently it has been fixed. and i narrowly miss being shattered by the glass.
